These instructions only apply to applicants of the Chinese Government Scholarship- Bilateral Program, who are required to submit a pre-admission letter to the Chinese Embassy or dispatching authorities in their home country to complete their applications.

2. Application procedure:
(1) Online application:
Applicants should first register and apply online at ?http://admission.whu.edu.cn/ and upload the application documents as per the third part of instructions. Please choose sources of funds -- Chinese Government Program.
(2)Sending email: Applicants should email the ’Application Form for International Scholars and Students of Wuhan University’, which is generated automatically after a successful online application to admissions@whu.edu.cn, the subject for the email should be ‘Application for Pre-admission Letter’.
Notes:
?Online application is mandatory. Applicants without an online application will not be considered.
?The Admissions Office of Wuhan University (WHU) will not process any incomplete applications or applications for other scholarship programs.
3. Application documents required:
Applicants must submit the following application documents on the application system. It is not necessary to mail the hard-copy documents after a successful online application.
(1) Degree programs:
? Highest degree certificate and academic transcripts (notarized copy in English or Chinese).
?Application for undergraduate programs High school graduation certificate and academic transcripts relating to high school study.
?Application for master’s programs: Bachelor's degree certificate and academic transcripts relating to bachelor's study.
?Application for doctoral programs: Master's and bachelor's degree certificates and academic transcripts relating to master's and bachelor's study.
?Applicants who are currently studying at high school or university should provide an official pre-graduation certificate, academic transcript and on-school performance certificate issued by your current school. If admitted, a notarized copy of their formal degree certificate should be submitted to the WHU Admissions Office before the specified registration date; failure to do so will result in disqualification of enrollment.
? Study or research plan (minimum 800 words) in Chinese or English.
? Two letters of recommendation signed by professors or associate professors, in Chinese or English. In the case of high school students, they are expected to submit one letter of recommendation from their high school.
? A photocopy of Chinese (HSK) or English Proficiency Certificate or medium-of-instruction certificate. Please refer to the fourth part of these instructions for detailed information about language requirements.
? A photocopy of valid personal passport with a minimum of one year before its expiration.
? A photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form (click to download http://admission.whu.edu.cn/en/?c=content&a=list&catid=81), completed in Chinese or English. (The original is to be retained by the applicant.)If applicants have published papers, their abstracts should be submitted in online application.
? Acceptance letter from the professor of Wuhan University (if available).
(2) Non-degree Programs:
Applicants should choose their application category as General Scholar or Senior Scholar.
? A study certificate and academic transcripts (notarized copy in English or Chinese).
? Study plan in Chinese or English.
? A photocopy of Chinese (HSK) or English Proficiency Certificate or medium-of-instruction certificate. Please refer to the fourth part of these instructions for detailed information about language requirements.
? A photocopy of valid personal passport with a minimum of one year before its expiration.

4. Academic Programs and Teaching Language
(1) Programs in Chinese
Most programs are taught in Chinese at Wuhan University. For more information, please visit Academic Programs at http://admission.whu.edu.cn.
? Chinese proficiency requirements for Chinese-medium programs
A. Applicants, applying as bachelor degree student, general scholar (except for Chinese Language Program) or senior scholar, should have at least HSK Level Three certificate (Chinese Proficiency Test) when applying. Applicants meet HSK Level Four or above can proceed to the major study directly, and those who have not reached HSK Level Four can apply for Chinese language training courses for one year, and then move on to their degree study after meeting the requirement.
B. Applicants, applying as master degree or Phd student, should have at least HSK Level Four certificate (Chinese Proficiency Test) when applying. Applicants meet HSK Level Five or above can proceed to the major study directly, those who have not reached HSK Level Five can apply for Chinese language training courses for one year, and then move on to their degree study after meeting the requirement.
C. Applicants whose native language is Chinese or can provide proof of studying at a previous institution where the teaching language is Chinese, may not have to provide HSK Certificate after further approval of Wuhan University.
(2) Programs in English:
WHU offers 17 programs in English. More information is available on the website http://admission.whu.edu.cn.
A. Applicants of English-medium programs should provide score report of English Language test, TOEFL requires 80, IELTS requires 5.5. For those who cannot offer the abovementioned standard English test results, can provide proof of studying at a previous institution where the teaching language is English, and they will be required to participate in an additional oral or written English test organized by Wuhan University.
B. Native English-speaking applicants can be exempted from providing the above English proficiency certificate.
C. Applicants for English-medium graduate program of clinical medicine should have Certificate of HSK Level Four or above, and those applicants who have not reached HSK Level Four can apply for Chinese language training courses for one year, and then move on to their degree study after meeting the requirement.
5. Acceptance
Application documents will be forwarded to the relevant school for academic review. Decisions on admissions will be made on the basis of the applicants’ academic performance, language proficiency, comprehensive quality, research output and their prospective advisor’s comments and their program preference. The University will notify applicants of the admission outcome via email after receiving a complete set of documents. Successful applicants will receive a pre-admission letter by email.
