Starting in the autumn of 2025, Canisius University will provide the Buffalo Promise Scholarship, a full-tuition scholarship designed to make higher education more affordable to qualified Buffalo-area students. This scholarship is intended to remove financial obstacles by covering 100% of tuition fees for up to four years of undergraduate study at Canisius, after accounting for government help.

Qualifications and Requirements

 

Students who fit the following requirements are eligible to apply for the Buffalo Promise Scholarship:

  • Must submit an application and be accepted as a freshman undergraduate at Canisius University for the fall of 2025.
  • Must be a Buffalo resident (ZIP code starting with 142).
  • A household's adjusted gross income must be $125,000 or less.

Scholarship recipients must also fulfill the following requirements:

  • By March 1, 2025, submit a valid Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and an application for the New York Tuition Assistance Program (TAP).
  • Make a two-year commitment to attend Canisius University.
  • Keep up a strong academic status the entire time they are enrolled.

How To Apply 

The Buffalo Promise Scholarship is a “last-dollar” award benefit. This means that after tallying any federal and/or state aid, such as federal Pell Grants and state Tuition Assistance Program funds, Canisius will cover the remaining balance of tuition, effectively making a Canisius undergraduate education 100% tuition free for eligible admitted students.
