About us

With its Headquarters based in Paris (France) and 53 Field Offices and Institutes worldwide, UNESCO counts over 2200 staff from diverse and multicultural backgrounds from our 193 Member States working to advance the objectives of UNESCO’s mission and programmes.

UNESCO is also proud to be one of the few UN organizations, to date, to have achieved overall gender parity, and in particular parity at the Senior Management level.

Learning & Development

The Organization recognizes the importance of staff keeping abreast with developments in their fields and continually improving their general professional skills. To this end, the Organization encourages both formal and informal, on-the-job learning.  This may be through enrolling in online courses available on the Organization’s learning platform, participating in workshops, or through exposure to projects and tasks that will develop and expand skills and knowledge. Staff and managers work together to identify development opportunities for staff, to enable them to perform with greater effectiveness in their current roles, or equip them with the skills necessary for roles to which they aspire in the future.

Career Development

It is never too early or too late to think about the next steps in your career development. At UNESCO, this is founded on the basis of a partnership approach between the staff member, the manager and the Organization, with staff members encouraged to take the initiative to seek out formal and informal approaches to developing their careers. Career & Performance Conversations are the cornerstone of career development and performance management in the Organization.  Individual, personalized support is also available at any stage in your career.

Internship Programme

The UNESCO Internship Programme is a learning opportunity for students and recent graduates to learn about UNESCO’s mandate, programmes and processes as well as enhance their academic and technical knowledge through practical assignments.
